New Essential Oil Project Launch - Babane cc in Rustenburg
SEOBI is launching the latest essential oil project in Rustenburg, the Babane Project. This is a women owned project which has been funded by Royal Bafokeng and Absa Bank. The project has a 22 ha farm which is dedicated to essential oil production. The farm has been cleared. Irrigation system has been installed on the farm. Everything is set for planting this growing season. End of early November 2009 the project will be launched at the planting day. The actual date will be given soon. Watch this space...!

Schools Nature Excursion Event in Hammanskraal

SEOBI was approached by a communication company called Black Capsules communication to present to pupils on caring for environment such as crops. SABC needed the presentation for their schools educational programme on SABC 2.
SEOBI's community development department organized two schools (Mamodibo High School and Bokamoso High School) in the Moretele Municipality. Harvesting and distillation was done by SEOBI's Agronomist. The stakeholders that attended the event were; ARC, the Moretele municipality, and the National Department of Agriculture.
Members of the Moretele Cluster (Mogogelo, Kgomokgomo and Lekatela) took part in the whole process of exposing the pupils in the essential oil value chain. The CEO of SEOBI, Mr Ndwakhulu Mukhufi interacted with the learners. He gave an educational and practical talk with the pupils on essential oils. The talk covered caring for environment in taking care of the crops growing in communities, the essential oils crop production.
It was an interactive day between SEOBI experts and the learners. This day was very informative to the pupils for whom it was the first they heard about essential oils.
The SEOBI Open Day at Vaalwater
Emerging farmers in essential oils came together to receive informative and practical advice at the SEDA Essential Oil Business Incubator (SEOBI) Open Day on Wednesday 29 October at the Zandrivier farm in Vaalwater, Limpopo. The theme for the event was: Recognizing the value of Agriculture in the Essential Oil Industry. The event organized by SEOBI, attracted about 150 people with various interests in the essential oils business.
Attendees had the opportunity to interact with nursery owners, manufacturers of farming and distillation equipment and buyers. The day also saw practical demonstration of best practice crop harvesting and distillation methods.
At the event guests were treated to a practical demonstration of the harvesting of the Rose Geranium plant which is cultivated at the Zandrivier farm. The oil distilled from this plant is used mainly used for high end perfumery formulations
It was a memorable event which answered many technical, agricultural and business focused questions, but also created numerous networking opportunities for those interested in the exiting essential oils business.
